This Holiday Season is Predicted to Bring High Retail Sales

Consumers are getting a little more optimistic about their economic situations, and that means they may be spending more this holiday season, according to IHS Global Insight researchers.

Here are some findings from the November Index:
- Consumer opinions on current economic conditions increased 5.5 points from October, to 82.1, the highest level since June.
- Buying conditions for durable goods (a key indicator for powersports-related sales) increased to 131 in November from 119 in October. This is also the highest level since June.

Motorcycles, Not Sports Cars, Are Becoming the Vehicle of Choice for Many Middle-Aged Men

According to new research by U.K. insurer Swinton Bikes, middle-aged men are opting for powersports as they hit their “mid life crisis”. The motorcycle insurance broker’s online survey found that 41% of those planning to buy a new set of wheels by the age of 50 plan to buy a new motorcycle rather than a new car.

Consumer Demand for Big-Ticket Items is Rising

According to a monthly survey done by consulting/research firm SAGE: Survival and Growth Enterprises, consumer demand for big-ticket items is on the rise. Eight percent of respondents say they’re actively in the market for a new car, up from six percent in April and five percent in March.

The Industry is Beginning to Turn Around

The National Retail Federation, the world’s largest retail trade association, projected retail industry sales will rise 2.5 percent in 2010 after declining by that same percentage in 2009.
